The Hope (Prayer) Ministry exists to minister to the needs of the church through prayer and intercession. God has called us to partner with Him to accomplish His purposes on earth. Our ministry is a ministry of Hope.

It has been said that the local church is the hope of the world. No other institution in the world has the power to transform the soul of man. Education, government, social structures and community health are all good things, but they cannot introduce a person tho the redemptive love of Jesus Christ. The local church is the hope of the world. And, our church, North Metro Church is offering that hope. But that hope will never be proclaimed clearly unless this church is grounded in prayer. Thus, the Hope Team.

If you have a prayer request, click here to send it to the Hope Team. Your prayer request will be submitted to those on the Hope Team. Please indicate whether or not you would like your prayer request added to our church wide prayer distribution list.

If you are experiencing a personal crisis, you don’t need to walk through it alone. A Stephen Minister is ready to walk beside you...“Bear one another’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”  Galatians 6:2

Stephen Ministers are volunteer lay ministers who provide one-on-one spiritual and emotional care focusing on their care receivers’ needs. They offer care, support, and encouragement to people whose lives have been turned upside down by crisis or tragedy. They minister through active listening, a caring presence, and prayer. Job Postings:

theCrossLinkNetwork  - this job board pulls from many job boards nationwide plus serves as a resource for help inthe job search process.

The Crosslink Network - This is a career management resource website that provides resources and information to job seekers and serves as a channel to link Christians all around the country through an established network of Christian career ministries and faith-based organizations.

Communications:

Monster – the Advice tab on the site contains links to articles on topics such as Job-Hunt Strategy, Resumes & Letters and Interviewing.  This section contains many up-to-date articles on a variety of topics.

Susan Ireland - Resumes – this site contains many examples of resumes and cover letters, as well as advice on developing these documents.  Take advantage of the freebies!

Business Cards – this site can be used to order personal business cards.  These cards are good quality and free of charge but there is a minimal charge for shipping.

Salary:

Salary Information – the Salary Wizard in the top left-hand corner contains the fields to begin a search.  This tool is also linked to sites such as Monster.com and CareerBuilder.com.  Take advantage of the free information but use the other salary research tools before paying.

www.BLS.gov – the JobSeeker section contains a link to the Occupational Outlooks Handbook, which enables you to search by letter or job description.  The information on this sight is based on a national average but it gives a great deal of detail that is helpful when researching salaries, positions, industries and the job market as a whole.

Salary Expert – this site was recommended because it contains a very detailed list of job descriptions.  Some of the salary ranges did not appear to be completely accurate (a telecommunications engineer makes $21,000 per year) but if you are interested in what a fish packer and silversmith make, check it out!

All Inclusive Sites:

Career One Stop - this is a site provided by the U.S. Department of Labor that provides a variety of information such as employment trends, salary information, self-assessments and planning guides for the purpose of providing employment information and inspiration.

Riley Guide – this appears to be a comprehensive site with a great deal of information ranging from salary guides to self-assessments to executing a search.  It also contains links to numerous other sites but beware, some charge for their services.

Godel – this site is actually a business site for Laimon Godel (a Knoxville CPA), but also includes a Job Aids page.  The Job Aids portion of the site contains a calendar of networking events that are held in the Atlanta Metro area.  It also includes job fairs and links to resources.

AJobs – this site is a supplement to the book Atlanta Jobs.  The Atlanta Companies button displays a list of companies – a company can then be selected to display a list of current job openings.  This site also contains information on professional associations and networking groups.

The Georgia Department of Labor – the Georgia Department of Labor site contains information on unemployment benefits, as well as the current job market in Georgia.  It also contains a resource section, a comprehensive program for conducting a job search and a listing of job fairs.  The site is an excellent resource and continues to be updated as the job market evolves.

Traditional Resources

Don’t forget about more traditional resources, such as the library!  While the computer is a wonderful thing, you cannot conduct a complete job search from a keyboard.  (Remember, building your network is your primary goal.)

Bookstores – in addition to selling books, they now sell coffee and invite you to sit, sip, and browse!  Take advantage of this.  Rather than buying all of the books and reference materials that are recommended, you can read them free of charge.

Library – unlike bookstores they do not offer coffee but they do offer access to trade publications, research tools, and even databases of company information, such as Hoovers and Dunn & Bradstreet.  (These databases provide the capability to research individual companies.)

Honorable Mention

There are many additional sites that have been recommended, but for which I do not have any first-hand information, nor was I able to locate the website.  Based on feedback, some of these have been included below.

Indeed – this site appears to search job postings from multiple locations (company site, Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, etc.) to provide a comprehensive list of opportunities.

Saint Brigid Catholic Church – this site contains information on the St. Brigid Catholic Church meetings held the first and third Tuesday nights from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Select the Calendar link at the top of the screen and locate the date, time, and link for Career Transition Networking Group.

Hopefully, this information will prove to be helpful in your search.  In addition to the sites, below are some tips that will also be helpful.

  • Many sites require that you create a user name and password. Be consistent! They can be hard to remember and you don’t want to have to create multiple accounts for a single site.

  • Don’t sign up on too many email lists. Your in box will become cluttered with more emails than you can read and that can cause you to overlook an important one.

  • Don’t sign up for email on job boards with which you aren’t familiar. Some of the lesser-known job boards might share your information or continuously solicit you to sign up for the platinum package for only $29.99 a month.

  • Beware of viruses, spyware, adware, and hijackers – they’re everywhere! Don’t install or download anything from a website unless you feel confident that it is from a reputable site.

  • Nothing on the Internet is private! Assume that someone else will be reading what you enter. This is the goal of posting resumes, but remember if you complete a survey, the information (name, address, salary) could potentially be sold to other companies. (Which in turn can create more useless email!)

If you practice safe surfing, using the Internet as part of your job search can be very beneficial.

Good luck with your search!
