When God Says Go

Jonah · Week 1

We run from God whenever we decide our way is better than His.

Jonah 1:1-3 (ESV) · Pastor Daniel Hicks

We meet Jonah, hear God's assignment, and watch him head in the opposite direction, fast. It'd be easy to make this a simple "obey or else" story, but that's not the real issue. Jonah's problem isn't logistics. He doesn't want what God wants. His refusal comes from a deeper place: he wants the right to decide who deserves mercy.

The whole series

Jonah ran from God, and God pursued him anyway. Over five weeks, we're walking through the book of Jonah: a runaway prophet, a storm, a fish, a city that shouldn't have gotten a second chance, and a God who won't let go of any of them.

Coming up next week

Jonah's asleep. The sailors are terrified and praying. Sometimes God disrupts what's comfortable to rescue what's dying in Jonah 1:4-16.
